About Mustela® 9 Months
For 60 years, Expanscience Laboratories
has been present in European maternity wards. In collaboration with healthcare
professionals, Expanscience Laboratories has developed Mustela® 9
Months the first complete line of skincare products created to address
changes in the skin during pregnancy and post-partum that draws upon the
unique combination of 3 specific active ingredients:
1. Elastoregulator®, a natural active ingredient enabling the skin to adapt to tissue stretching by strengthening its elasticity. It directly activates the production of the skin's support proteins.
2. Lupeol, a plant extract, stimulates biosynthesis and ensures that the collagen, naturally produced by the skin, is of good quality.
3. Avocado Peptides relieve feelings
of tightness and stimulate the production of epidermal lipids to improve
skin comfort.
Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are a major concern of pregnant women: they are indeed one of the most common consequences of pregnancy. They take the form of reddish-purple ridges, which develop into a pearly-white color. They are the result of the rupture of collagen and elastin fibers that ensure the support and elasticity of the skin. During pregnancy, and under the influence of hormonal changes, these fibers are replaced by new, thinner and disorganized ones. This tissue distension generates visible scars on the skin's surface which correspond to stretch marks.
Other factors also increase the onset of stretch marks: weight gain, heredity, the young age of the mother, her weight before pregnancy and the quality of her collagen. On the other hand, the volume of her abdomen or the number of prior pregnancies does not affect their onset.

Specific Care
During pregnancy, the body undergoes changes both internally and externally. Although a woman's body was designed to give birth, the process may cause some discomfort, specifically of the breasts, legs and skin hydration.
Breast Changes
Female hormones modify skin circulation causing sensations of tightness and increased volume of the mammary glands. As they contain no muscle, the support of the breasts depends almost entirely on skin tone.
After giving birth, the drop in hormonal levels causes the breast to reduce in volume and can weaken the skin which loses its elasticity.

Tired, heavy legs
During the first 3 months of pregnancy, hormones reduce the firmness of veins and affect the blood circulation. During the last 6 months of pregnancy, extra weight, water retention and the volume of the uterus interfere with the "return" circulation. The blood and lymph in the feet do not easily return upwards to the heart. This is the state of veno-lymphatic insufficiency.

Skin dryness
Itchiness and dryness is a common problem during pregnancy, particularly in relation to growing belly and breasts.
