Mustela Skincare
Why should I use Mustela products?
Mustela has over 60 years of experience in developing dermocosmetic products to best address the special needs of newborns, babies, new mothers and mothers-to-be. Mustela selects only Nature's best active ingredients and all products in our Bébé, Mustela 9 Months, and Dermo-Pediatrics ranges are hypoallergenic, paraben-free, phthalate-free and phenoxyethanol-free. All products are manufactured under strict standards in our own pharmaceutical laboratories in France and rigorously tested by dermatologists and pediatricians. Mustela is committed to the highest level of safety for both mother and baby.

What kind of skincare does Mustela offer?
Expectant mothers, new mothers and their babies undergo significant skin changes in a very short period of time. Mustela offers four skincare lines to best address these changes.

Mustela 9 Months (M9M): A line specially developed to address the changes in a woman's skin during pregnancy and after giving birth.

Mustela Bébé: Daily products for hygiene, bath time, diaper change and skin protection, specially formulated for the delicate skin of newborns, babies and children.

Mustela Dermo-Pediatrics: A line dedicated entirely to common skin problems in newborns, babies and children including dry eczema-prone skin, intolerant and irritated skin, diaper rash and cradle cap.

Mustela Sun Protection: Sun care that offers high sun protection, specially formulated to protect the delicate and developing skin of babies and children.

Does Mustela test on animals or use animal by-products?
Our laboratories do not test on animals but use in vitro tests (cell cultures, reconstructed epidermises) to ensure the safety of our finished product. These tests strictly conform to current regulatory provisions at the European level. The only animal-derived ingredient used in our formulas is beeswax.

Are Mustela products gluten-free?
Our laboratories do not use casein or gluten as ingredients in our formulas. However, we cannot guarantee that there are no traces or similar compounds in the raw materials purchased from our suppliers.

Are Mustela products Bisphenol-A (BPA) free?
Yes, all of our products and bottles are made without Bisphenol-A.

Baby
There are a number of Mustela shampoos. What shampoo is best for my baby?
All Mustela products are tearless, hypoallergenic and ultra-gentle. For newborns and sensitive skin needs, we suggest the ultra mild and soap-free Dermo-Cleansing gel for hair and body, which nourishes as it gently cleanses. Foam Shampoo for Newborns gently exfoliates and helps prevent cradle cap. Bébé Shampoo leaves hair soft and shiny with wheat, chamomile and coconut oil extracts. 2-in-1 Hair & Body Wash works well for older babies and toddlers with thicker hair.

Can I use Facial Cleansing Cloths to cleanse my baby's face and in particular his eyes?
Yes. Facial Cleansing Cloths have been specifically formulated for cleansing a baby's face and delicate eye area. They are soaked in a no-rinse cleansing and soothing water with high skin and eye tolerance that has been dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested.

Is Mustela Musti Eau de Soin safe to use on newborns?
Yes, our Musti Eau de Soin is safe for your newborn. It is alcohol free and hypoallergenic. If you have a premature birth baby, please consult your physician on when it would be safe to use.

Is Mustela sunscreen lotion PABA free?
Yes, our sunscreen is PABA free.

What are the amounts of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in your sun product?
Mustela High Protection Sun Lotion offers 100% Mineral sunscreen protection and contains 11.1% titanium dioxide and 5% zinc oxide. These ingredients create a physical block between sun rays and your child's skin.

How do I know whether my child has eczema or simply dry, sensitive skin?
A doctor should always be consulted to diagnose a condition. Eczema-prone skin is usually a hereditary condition identified by chronic flare-ups of red, dry patches which can become cracked and blistered. View Mustela's Stelatopia line specially developed for eczema- prone skin. With dry and sensitive skin, redness tends to be a temporary condition and can be soothed with a rich and protective product such as Cold Cream Nutri-Protective or any of our Stelaprotect products. With any skin type, regular moisturizing and application of sun protection is important to caring for your baby's skin and can improve health and well-being.

What product do you have to help with baby acne?
You should always consult with your doctor before treating any skin condition. For children with baby acne, we recommend Bébé for its soap-free, pH-balanced formula. It dissolves and extracts dirt while keeping the skin hydrated.

What is cradle cap and what should I use to cleanse the scalp?
Foam Shampoo for Newborns is recommended for mild to moderate cradle cap. It is ultra- mild and tearless with gentle exfoliating properties. For more severe cases of cradle cap, we recommend using Mustela Stelaker, which is part of the Dermo-Pediatrics range. Applying this cream before bedtime and washing it off in the morning with the Foam Shampoo for Newborns is the best regime for clearing cradle cap.

What is the difference between Vitamin Barrier Cream and Stelactiv?
Vitamin Barrier Cream should be used daily at each diaper change. This product prevents diaper rash through creating a protective shield against friction and irritation. Stelactiv should be used to treat moderate to severe diaper rash and should be applied to baby's bottom during each diaper change as the problem persists.

Mother
Are Mustela maternity products safe to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding?
Yes. Mustela 9 Months (M9M) has been developed and tested by healthcare professionals adhering to the highest standards of safety. Our hypoallergenic formulas are made with active ingredients of natural origin, and have been shown to have no effect on your baby. We understand that the safety of your baby is your number one priority and we are proud of 60 years of proven safety and efficacy for soon-to-be and new mothers.

What is the difference between Stretch Marks Double Action and Stretch Marks Intensive Action?
Stretch Marks Double Action is a product which helps prevent and reduce new stretch marks and should be used twice a day from the beginning of pregnancy until a month after giving birth. Stretch Marks Intensive Action minimizes existing stretch marks during or after pregnancy and should be used as soon as marks appear, twice daily for three months.

I am a mother of a toddler and I have stretch marks; will your products still work for me?
For existing stretch marks, Stretch Marks Intensive Action is suggested. However, our clinical tests were performed on women who had given birth six months to two years previously and we are not able to guarantee effective results past this timeframe. For women farther removed from pregnancy, the effectiveness of the product will be determined by the current appearance of the marks. As long as the marks are raised and red, they are still at a stage where treatment will most likely be effective. Once marks have the pearly-white sheen of a scar, it is much less likely that that treatment will be effective.

I am scheduled to have a cesarean section soon. Is Mustela Stretch Marks Double Action safe to use on my stomach area? How about post-op?
Stretch Marks Double Action can be used before your cesarean; however, afterwards we recommend that you do not use it on your incision area until it has completely healed. None of our products should be applied to open wounds.

I gave birth recently and currently breastfeeding, what kind of product do you recommend to prevent loss of firmness and stretch marks in my breasts?
Specific Support Bust helps promote firmness and prevents loss of skin elasticity which may occur during pregnancy. It soothes breast tightness and eases the sensation of stretching. This product is also safe to use while breastfeeding.

I am breastfeeding and recently have experienced sore, cracked nipples. Does Mustela have a product to help me comfortably nurse my newborn?
Yes. Mustela s Nursing Comfort Balm is intended for moms who have chosen to breastfeed. It is a gentle cream that protects, soothes and hydrates nipples and surrounding skin. This product has been developed and tested extensively by medical experts to ensure its safety for both mother and baby and you do not have to rinse before feeding.
