Postpartum care

Six to eight weeks after you give birth, remember to make a final visit to your gynecologist. This postpartum checkup is essential for making sure that everything is back to normal. Your doctor will ask about your delivery and subsequent state of health. S/he will also weigh you, take your blood pressure and conduct a breast and pelvic exam. Finally, s/he will prescribe a contraceptive (unless you received a prescription before leaving the hospital), as well as pelvic floor exercise sessions with a midwife or physical therapist. This will help you avoid future urinary problems, so don’t forget to do them!
