Additional screening tests
During certain monthly visits, your doctor will recommend additional tests so that you and your baby can avoid specific risks:
- During the third and fourth months, you will receive a prescription for a “triple test”. This blood test measures your risk of giving birth to a baby with Down syndrome. If the risk exceeds a certain level, you can undergo an amniocentesis procedure to receive a definite diagnosis.
- During the fifth and sixth months, you will receive a prescription for an “O’Sullivan’s test”. Conducted in a laboratory, this test screens for gestational diabetes.
